High Sierra Water's “technology neutral” philosophy enables us to utilize the best available technologies, regardless of equipment manufacturer. We develop solutions that allow us to treat flowback and produced water for use in hydro fracturing, land application or surface water discharge. Each system is customized to your specific water chemistry.
Recycling for Hydro Fracturing
Recycling requires the use of common industry standards that remove condensate through processes based on gravity separation and de-emulsification chemistries. Enhanced condensate recovery can be accomplished using one or more of the following technologies:
- Dissolved or induced gas floatation
- Nutshell filters
- Polymeric and naturally occurring zeolite adsorbents.
When combined, these steps help to purify the water and reduce the bacterial count without the addition of biocides. They can then be followed by chemical precipitation steps, ion exchange or nanofiltration to remove dissolved scale forming components such as barium and strontium.
Discharging Onto Land or Surface Waters
Discharged water is required to meet EPA and state drinking water standards. Distillation and reverse osmosis are commonly used to remove Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Successful treatment systems utilize the following technologies prior to reverse osmosis and distillation to protect those processes from inorganic scale and organic fouling:
- Ion Exchange
- Biological treatment using MBBR
- MBR and/or conventional activated sludge systems
- Conventional coagulation
- Ultra-filtration or microfiltration
